Held in Color
"Held in Color" is my first complete series, exploring the transmutation of emotional energy through color. The title reflects my belief that color can act as a vessel—holding emotional states, memories, and subtle energetic shifts that are often difficult to express through language alone. Each painting was created to embody a distinct energetic frequency of change, while the series as a whole traces an alchemical journey from stillness, through fragmentation and integration, and into wholeness.
Held in Color I inhabits the suspended "before"—a quiet state of potential where peace coexists with a longing for experience. In Held in Color II, that stillness begins to differentiate, unfolding into movement, expansion, and possibility. Held in Color III descends into the storm, where buried shadow rises to the surface to be witnessed and transformed. Held in Color IV offers a moment of respite: an exhale after intensity, where the energy softens and begins to recover from the tensions of duality.
In Held in Color V, the journey returns inward once more, seeking the hidden remnants that remain unintegrated so they may be reunited with their source. Held in Color VI reflects the profound stillness that follows deep inner work—a solitude that is restful rather than empty. Finally, Held in Color VII arrives at a place of clarity, openness, and quiet transcendence, where what was once divided has become whole.
While each painting stands as an independent energetic landscape, together they form a single unfolding meditation on transformation, inviting the viewer to move through the same subtle arc of dissolution, integration, and renewal.
